With Sinulog now behind us, residents of Cebu traffic are probably wondering why the traffic is still at a standstill. In case you haven’t heard, this week Cebu is hosting the 51st International Eucharistic Congress.

On certain streets such as on Pope John Paul II Avenue, and intersecting Cardinal Rosales Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic. Only IEC-registered vehicles would be allowed to use said roads during 5am-9pm, and 2pm-7pm respectively. The two roads though will not be closed during the same times.

Chad the Stud is no exception the mayhem. Although Chad has reported that in the morning, driving north bound to work on Banilad has not been as bad as he expected. He has admitted to waking up earlier and leaving his house earlier to make it to his destination on time though.

Avoiding the closed roads are key to keeping your head cool during the traffic times. As much as possible, avoid any closed roads, or venues that are located nearby to these roads. If you absolutely do not need to leave the house, Chad jokes “just stay home! Don’t make the traffic worse for us!

With our exploding population here in Cebu, it may be wise to think about solutions in the future for traffic problems like this. For example, those who have a vehicle to get to work can carpool with co-workers to help with traffic congestion. Government incentives could help promote such programs. And the words mass transit system are beginning to sound more and more logical for us here in Cebu in recent years.
