James Bond movie

007’s contract with Sony Pictures expired. Will they be able to buy it back?

Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Annapurna. These are the five movie studios who are currently battling it out in a bid to win over the rights to the next James Bond film.

MGM and EON Productions, the companies that control the rights to the films, are taking pitches from several big studios after Sony Pictures’ contract with the franchise expired.

Sony Pictures co-owned the rights to 007 starting in 2006’s Casino Royale. Their contract to market and distribute the franchise expired in 2015 with the release of Spectre. This gave way for MGM and EON to begin considering offers for the rights of the next films.

However, unlike Sony’s previous 4-film deal, MGM and EON will only be offering a one-film contract.
