George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr went to the wedding party.

In 1964, George Harrison met Pattie Boyd on the set of the movie, A Hard Day’s Night. A year later they got engaged, and a month after they tied the knot. Pattie Boyd was Mrs. George Harrison for the rest of the Beatles’ career. In 1973, three years after the Beatles broke up, Boyd's marriage to Harrison began to fail and she had an affair with Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood.

Boyd decided to divorce Harrison and said her decision to split from the former Beatle was based largely on his repeated infidelities, culminating in an affair with Ringo Starr's wife Maureen, which Boyd called "the final straw". In 1974, Boyd and Harrison’s divorce became official.

In the late 1960s Clapton and Harrison became close friends, and began writing and recording music together. This is when Clapton fell in love with Harrison’s wife, Pattie Boyd. His 1970 album with Derek and the Dominos, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, was written to proclaim his love for her, particularly the hit song "Layla".

Boyd rejected Clapton’s advances on her, which led to Clapton descending into heroin addiction. (Also because she was married with George Harrison at the time). When Boyd and Harrison divorced, Clapton swept in. Boyd moved in with Clapton and married him in 1979.

38 years ago today, Eric Clapton held a party at his Surrey house celebrating his recent marriage. Clapton had set-up a small stage in the garden and as the evening progressed, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr ended up jamming together along with Clapton, Ginger Baker and Mick Jagger. The all-star band ran through old Little Richard and Eddie Cochran songs.

They were quite happy really.
