There have been hundreds of film adaptations of the Robin Hood legend, the popular folktale from England that first appeared in the 13th century. The story goes that Robin Hood, a highly skilled archer and swordsman, returns to England to find his land has now been taken over by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin then becomes an outlaw and joins a group of other outlaws called the Merry Men. Together they vow to take revenge on the dastardly Sheriff as Robin goes about town to steal gold from the rich to distribute to the poor. This makes Robin Hood a very popular hero whose story’s been told countless times throughout centuries.

From 1938’s “The Adventures of Robin Hood” starring Errol Flynn to 2010’s “Robin Hood” starring Russell Crowe, a retelling of the English legend has been put up on the silver screen every single decade. The latest of these film adaptations is “Robin Hood” starring Taron Egerton from the Kingsmen franchise. The movie is directed by Otto Bathurst who gained fame by directing episodes of Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror.

The new “Robin Hood” film portrays Robin Hood as a war-hardened Crusader who mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham. Egerton’s portrayal of the outlawed hero is turned into a some kind of superhero that fits perfectly in the 21st century. The film is labeled as a thrilling action-adventure film filled with gritty battlefield scenes and mind-blowing choreography. The producers of the film has said that what makes this “Robin Hood” different from the hundreds of Robin Hood movies before it is its “gritty tone”.
The film is now available to watch on the theaters this week. “Robin Hood” is now showing at the SM Cinemas.
