TLC feat. Snoop Dogg ‘Way Back’

The new TLC album will drop this June 30.

TLC was a popular R&B girl group vocal trio in the 90s comprised of T-Boz, Chilli, and Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. They created the massively popular songs Creep, Waterfall, No Scrubs, and Unpretty.

In 2002, Left Eye was killed in a car crash. The remaining members of the band decided not to replace her and stopped making music together as TLC.

But skip 15 years later, t-Boz and Chilli as TLC dropped a new song called Way Down featuring a guest verse from Snoop Dogg. The song is going to be part of TLC’s new album set to be released this June 30. The new record has been crowdfunded by a Kickstarter campaign, which raised over $430,000.

When they took to Kickstarter, they made it clear they weren’t looking to reinvent the wheel with their new music: “Our final album will stay true to the TLC sound...No matter the trends, our music is always relevant.” This is a project with nostalgia at its core, so it’s no surprise that “Way Back” sounds like it’s been plucked straight out of the 90’s.

The bass is chunkier and groovier; the horns bloom like flowers; T-Boz’s voice kicks up a little gravel. Snoop Dogg pokes his head in for a few bars. It might as well be 1997.

Way Back is a chill, smooth and groovy track that follows in the footsteps of their seminal karaoke-favorite classics like "Waterfalls" and "No Scrubs," timeless songs that showcase their impressive pipes and innate danceable beats.
