Every day there is a newborn model that's about to be discovered , waiting for a break, and for those who rise up to the challenge, make the cut. From a designer and a model makers point of view, I should say, one model has to be prolific at the runway and in posing, as in shows and in shoots, to impress fashion's most high. It's always that X factor , that aura surrounding her persona , that delivers stand-out models from mere mannequins to designer muses, to rising fashion icons coexisting in this ubiquitous world of fashion, where modeldom standards are strictly enforced.
Fresh from the first ever search for Bacolods Top Runway Model , held at the Sm Bacolod, where I was invited to chair the board of judges, alongside V Weddings magazine editor in chief Joanne Pijuan , beauty queen Tracy Javelona Binibining Pilipinas 2004 1st runner up, and model turned fashion entrepreneur owner of Soul Phenomenon label Nicole Puentabella , I'm overwhelmed by the promising talent these young kittens showed. On their faces , painted are hopes and dreams , and sheer determination to win the title.. Each one edging out one another, galloping, swiftly sashaying on the lighted glass floor ramp that reflected colors all over with emotion.
The show presented different pret -a-porter pieces from SM Department Store and other top fashion brands that tested the models' catwalk skills and projection on the runway as they strut it out with nine successive exposures to be exact. Soon right after almost 45 minutes of non-stop fashion show , the 12 finalists battled out til the last piece of clothing , and three contenders stood out and went into a runway challenge and proved their shot at winning the title.

With the emphasis on catwalk prowess, the criteria for judging based unanimously on one models consistent execution, and overall posing and walking agility, with a hanger-like x-factor only this five feet 9 tall, tourism student at 19, Jamaica Brutas was able to deliver up to the finish line. With high cheek bones, perfect shoulder proportion, and slim figure, she was poised to grab the top spot from 1st runner up galloper Camille Alfonso and 2nd runner up pretty stunner Katrina Gomez... Jamaica will soon be on the fashion pages of V Weddings Magazine based in Iloilo, and a modeling contract from AD Models Management aside from winning cash and gifts from SM City Bacolod.
Congratulations to the winners and kudos to the organizers for staging one of the best shows at the Masskara Festival 2011 This event was presented by SM City Bacolod headed by Mall Manager George Jardiolin , Marketing Manager Grace Soria, with marketing officers Glaiza Aungon and Nep Grandea..
