What if the world's currency was time itself? Gone where the days where society had to use money to make things work, no one works or gets money as compensation but gets time itself. I had the chance to watch the movie "In Time" and was simply blown away by the notion or possible reality that time was the new "currency" that made the world go round. The movie takes us to the the year 2161 where genetic alteration has allowed humanity to develop a system where individuals stop aging 25 years after birth. Due to over-population concerns, 'living time' has replaced money as the standard currency and people must acquire more time through labor and commercial means after turning 25 years of age, or die within a year.
Their amount of living time left are embedded on their arms like a wristwatch. Each social class lives in a different area called a 'Time Zone'. The poor live in the ghettos of Dayton and work each day to earn a few more hours of life, which they must also use to pay for everyday necessities. The rich live in the luxurious New Greenwich, and can live for centuries to millennia based on how much time they have accrued. The movie stars Justin Timberlake (Friends with Benefits), Amanda Seyfried (Red Riding Hood and Jennifer's Body), Olivia Wilde (Tron and The Change Up), Alex Pettyfer (Beastly), Johnny Galecki (Vanilla Sky and Hancock), Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), and Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Rises).
Although Olivia Wilde dies in the first few minutes of the movie after loosing all her time left running to meet up with her son Justin Timberlake (having a hot mom like Olivia Wilde die in your arms can be so devastating!) It shows that even time there are boundaries that divide society into classes. Justin Timberlake luckily saves someone who had a century of time on him from the Minutemen who are a gang of time stealers only to be placed in the predicament of having more time on his hands after the stranger gives him all 100+ years after living for more than a century already. Justin Timberlake motherless and with time to burn then heads out to New Greenwich to destroy the walls that divide society and there meets a businessman Vincent Kartheiser who operates a chain of "Time Banks" loaning time with huge interests. Justin falls for Amanda Seyfried the daughter and just when Cillian Murphy catches up to arrest him makes a break for it kidnapping Amanda Seyfried.
They get back to the ghettos of Dayton and find a way to get back at the system which they do so by robbing the Time Banks of Amanda's father and giving it to the residents of the ghetto upsetting the time distribution. Near the end of the movie Justin and Amanda successfully steal her fathers first million (in time) and Justin beats the mob boss of the Minutemen Alex Pettyfer in their own version of arm wrestling killing him and his henchmen and moving on to another zone or timeline continuing their Robinhood style of stealing time and giving it to those in need. If you want a movie that provokes your inner thoughts and imagination then this movie is good for you, forget the fact that Justin Timberlake is in the movie and his acting might be crappy because you soon forget he plays the lead role and get immersed in the storyline of the movie.
