Christmas is fast approaching and people are preparing their Christmas decorations to reflect the festive atmosphere that is a long honored tradition for our Filipinos.
What every Filipino has to have is a Christmas lantern or parol as we locally call it, ornaments made out of wax paper with originally patterned from the star that led the three wise men to Bethlehem. But now we usually see the parol in all shapes, sizes and colors, each particular place in the country has their own parol maker/s who work hard in bringing out the best of their individual creations. One place we can see such displays of locally made lanterns is along Lahug after Gorordo just a few meter away from UP Cebu where on both sides of the street motorists can see the magnificent display of colorful lights from the hand-made lanterns.
Prices for these works would run from P1,000.00 to P10,000.00 depending on the design or size, if there is one thing that comes with the festive season its got to be the bragging rights for having a nice lantern hung by the patio or a place at home for everyone to see. There are also made to order or custom designs tailoring to the buyers preference but this would certainly cost more than the ready made ones. One definitely cannot call it Christmas without these eye catching lanterns, so if you haven't bought one yet I suggest you do. It may be expensive but you can still tuck it away safely after Christmas and use it again next year which saves you quite a lot.
