It has come to light that famed director Steven Spielberg had originally wanted MJ to play that part of Peter Pan. But Jackson pulled out of playing Peter Pan for the 1991 movie Hook because the director's vision for the film didn't match his own (not much hand contact apparently).
Spielberg admits Jackson was keen to take on the lead role in the film but balked at the idea of playing a lawyer who forgot he was the boy who never grew up and probably wanted to be the singer who forgot that he wanted boys never to grow up.
The director shared to Entertainment Weekly magazine that Michael had always wanted to play Peter Pan, but when he called Michael and told him that this is about a lawyer that is brought back to save his kids and discovers that he was once Peter Pan when he was younger. To which Michael understood at that point it wasn't the same Peter Pan he wanted to make (thank God!) The role eventually went to Robin Williams which was in better "hands".
