Filipinos are really patrons of amusement parks, the good old "peryahan" as we call them often pops up during town fiestas everywhere in the country. Riding the roller coasters, ferris wheels, horror booths, etc...
Though seasonal in nature (only during fiestas), one man has sought to bring the fun and excitement an amusement park brings to Filipino families. The St. James Amusement Park which opened before Christmas is the vision of James Abilla, chief executive officer of St. James Amusement Masters Inc. for an amusement center with computer-controlled rides which is the first of its kind in Cebu and in southern Philippines
The St. James Amusement Park is set up across the Cebu International Convention Center and will operate until the end of February, but has the option to continue operations until middle of next year. Considering that right now, the entertainment options in Cebu are not very varied. Most Cebuanos have to go to theme parks in Manila or Hong Kong or Singapore opening an amusement park in Cebu is a welcome sight for those who want to stay rooted and not have to travel far to have fun.
The park will start with five major rides, including the Black Ship and Lantern Wheel, as well as a bazaar, marquee and food outlets. Safety and quality are top priority and the foundations of the rides passed international safety standards for amusement parks. European engineers flew in to install the foundations of the rides. He added that while the amusement park is a temporary operation, which will run until the end of February, the foundations are built as if the structures are permanent.
The marquee show will be held twice a night and feature performers choreographed by Val Sandiego. The park layout was designed by Kenneth Cobonpue. A skateboard park, inflatable zone, 600 square meters of bazaar space and a stage for the marquee show are also among the features of the park.
Entrance to the park will be at P100 and P150 during the peak season, but Abilla said it comes with a free drink, one ride token, and that the marquee show is free. The park also comes with free wi-fi and features a fireworks show. They are also selling all-day passes for those who want to ride the attractions more than once.
