Whoever came up with the idea to call Kris Aquino “Queen of All Media” should undergo psychiatric treatment or become a PR expert. The only thing that Aquino should be queen of is Queen of Gimmickry.
This is the same Kris Aquino who had a nationally-televised live interview after an altercation with her former lover Joey Marquez where she shamelessly discussed their bedroom scuffle complete with very graphic narration of her grabbing his crotch after he allegedly pointed a gun at her.
Sane women or those who don’t constantly hunger for publicity would have simply sulked in a corner and called their friends or family to air out. But not Aquino, whose showbiz career she owes to her being the daughter of two of the most revered political figures in Philippine history.
She probably wouldn’t win in an election so instead of giving politics a try she dove headfirst into show business with gusto. Her first few years in the movies showed her acting so lifeless that you would have a hard time telling her from a cadaver. Her acting is better now but you tend to get fed up with her constant exposure and constant quest for the next gimmick.
Lately she turned down the idea of having her former husband, the pro-basketball star James Yap, as a guest on her show Kris TV. Isn’t that a surprise. That would have raised her ratings. Has she gotten over her mania for gimmickry? Maybe. For all our sakes, we certainly hope so.
