An unexpected part of my trip to Bohol over the weekend was an overnight stay at Panglao Island which was a few minutes drive from Tagbilaran Bohol.
Connected by a short cause-way I was brought to a stretch of white sand beaches in Alona littered with classy resorts that catered to almost every type of traveler. Though I arrived at around 7PM in the evening I was able to find a nice cozy resort named Hayahay which was owned by a German businessman who also had a dive shop a few meters away. Though the place seemed small I was amazed of how spacious and well designed the rooms were with a small minibar and hot/cold shower. After unpacking I then proceeded to the beach which was just a few steps away from the resort and sat by the beachfront ordering some food for a late dinner while listening to a live band perform acoustic songs as well as some requested rock songs from ACDC and Rolling Stones (Yes, it was nostalgic!). The thing about the scene in Panglao / Alona is just similar to that of Boracay but not to the extend that the whole place is just resorts. The place is much smaller compared to Boracay meaning that for those like me who tend to turn anti-social due to throngs of tourists that congest the beach creating a stressful atmosphere then Panglao is definitely the place for you. Traveling to and from is not that costly as well as getting a room can cost as less as P1,500.00 per night. There is an array of culinary delights including fresh seafood to tickle ones appetite which are not expensive at all, going for as low as P100 to as high as P500 per dish it is the best deal one can get. The view is simply breath taking and the place is fondly frequented by divers. One night and one day was definitely not enough for me so I've already planned my next trip back to the island so I can spend more time in basking the fresh sea breeze as well as stuff myself with the fresh seafood. This article may still find a part two in the next few months so I will not end things here just yet.
