This question has been on everyone's mind for the past month or so.
This is not a simple question of a simple architectural masterpiece that is just waiting to be completed but is of a something that can greatly impact our surrounding. Everyone has heard and read the banter between those who want and those who do not want the construction of two flyovers particularly in the area near CIC and Asilo de Milagrosa Church. Those who support it aim to decongest the roads from traffic while those who oppose it are seeking for alternative means of solving the issue without having to find a quick solution by putting a huge concrete structure in that area. Frankly, as someone who lives in the south side of Cebu city I could care less but as an everyday motorist who plies that route almost 80% of the time the thought of another long agonizing discomfort brought about by the construction of such structure does not suit me entirely. There has been a number of flyovers built in the past 10 years and it has not eased the traffic situation completely, I even get stuck in traffic while on these flyovers and they sway and shake each time a vehicle passes by. Then the onslaught of rain has created potholes that makes traversing this concrete passageways like joining an autocross evading the orange cones. Another flyover has a unique feature of multiple "humps" along the stretch of elevated road which created discomfort to the public. I don't want Cebu to turn eventually turn out into another Metro Manila full of flyovers and elliptical skyways, it is not a sign of progress but rather a sign of finding an easy means of dealing with a problem that stretches beyond simple solutions. I have nothing against those who want to build it but only that all means be exhausted before finally resorting to putting another eyesore to Cebu's roads. The budget set aside for such structures can be put to better use by repairing the worn down streets (which causes traffic), seeking better ways to improve the flow of traffic (provide more budget for additional traffic lights and such). We are still years away from what Manila is experiencing right now, we have the advantage of learning from their mistakes and not repeating it. Its best to tackle the issue and not resort to temporary reliefs.
