Who would have ever guessed in their wildest dreams that the Boom Boom Pow rapper, real name Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr. is legally blind? After appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show with his bandmates on Wednesday, he confirmed reports suggesting his eyesight is really bad. Apl.de.ap said that he was born with nystagmus but opted to come out to encourage other kids with disabilities that they don't have to give up their dreams just because they have a disability.
The hip-hop star told the host he has to memorize dance moves for live shows and let the beat guide him onstage. Since his eyes are bad he credits his sense of awareness which has gotten much stronger due to his disability, adding that during concerts there are "Apl sections" indicated with bright arrows. As well as before every concert Apl and a member of the band's crew has to walk around the stage before each gig, so he can familiarize himself with the lay-out.
That just shows that regardless of physical hindrances there are still tons of things that one can do avoiding the put downs and acting just like any normal person out there. Apl is the second artist to come out with a disability aside from Anne Hathaway who is also legally blind but has been very successful in her acting career despite the setbacks.
