Queen stars Roger Taylor and Brian May are in talks with American Idol star Adam Lambert about becoming the rock supergroup's new frontman. The rockers teamed up with Lambert for the 2009 American Idol finale and again at the MTV Europe Awards last month, where the trio performed a stirring medley rendition of Queen hits The Show Must Go On, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, and drummer Taylor admits he's a big fan of the gay star. Now someone can finally give justice to the song "I want to break free"!
Taylor tells Billboard.com that Lambert has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great and that they would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but they are talking about live dates which could be very exciting."
Queen hit the road with former Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers in 2005 for an extensive four-year-long world tour, and he has also expressed an interest in reteaming with May and Taylor for one-off spectaculars and charity shows. Reports have suggested May, Taylor and Queen will be part of the London Olympics Opening Ceremony next summer.
Meanwhile, Taylor is also creating a Queen tribute band for his Queen Extravaganza Tour project, which will feature three singers and a five-piece band. The drummer will serve as producer and music director, although he will not be performing on the tour. Adding that no band has ever done such an endeavour. Very few are even endorsed but Taylor hopes to launch the project next year.
