Most of us who lived in gated communities or subdivisions as we fondly call them here know that there are some fees or yearly donations (requests) we need to shell money out for the home owners association, sometimes its for a community project and sometimes its for a sinking fund for any future costs the community might have to shell out for calamities or untoward incidents.
But in most cases people just pass it off and never pay, some make a fuss about it and some just let it be. This case could not be said for rapper Vanilla Ice however when he was almost in danger of being kicked out his own abode. Vanilla Ice's Florida mansion was in jeopardy of foreclosure but luckily it was only for a second. The former one-hit wonder (Ice) lives in a gated community in Palm Beach and when Hurricane Wilma destroyed some palm trees back in 2005 the homeowners association levied a special assessment of around ,800 per homeowner to cover the cost of replacing the fallen trees.
Ice unfortnuately never paid, and the figure swelled to ,100 wherein the homeowners association filed foreclosure documents in order to squeeze the money from the "Ice, Ice Baby" rapper
Ice's lawyers, Bradford Cohen and Joseph LoRusso said that the issue stemmed from Mr. VanWinkle (aka Mr. Ice) being unaware of any outstanding charges. As soon as he was made aware of the situation it was completely resolved or "paid up".
The hired guns took a shot at the homeowners association, saying that it is surprising that the association chose to waste funds on filing an action against our client rather than simply asking nicely which should have saved them fees and doc stamps come to think about it.
