Gene Hackman spent the night at the Florida hospital where he was treated for injuries he received in a car vs. bike accident and was treated like the VIP that he is.
Hackman was assigned to a special hospital room for important patients where doctors could keep a close eye on the 81-year-old. Doctors were concerned about a large gash on his forehead coupled with the fact that he's an older gentlemen who was hit by a car! Luckily Hackman has made tremendous progress in his recovery since he was airlifted to the Miami hospital from the the Florida Keys, where the accident took place.
Looking at the mangled remains of the bicycle Gene Hackman was riding when he was struck by a car seems a miracle that he had survived the whole ordeal and it seems he wants the remains of his busted up bike to be kept as a memento. Hackman's wrecked Trek mountain bike was brought to the Key Largo Bike Tours and Adventures shop days after the January 13 accident in the Florida Keys. And judging from the condition of the bike, it shows Hackman was hit from behind, with the back tire was almost completely folded in half from the impact. Hackman's people asked the shop to repair the bike and replace all of the damaged parts but made it clear that Gene wants to keep all of the broken pieces including the twisted tire. Total cost of the repairs are expected to run Hackman a few hundred bucks which won't hurt a filthy rich old actor!
