When will the ex-One Direction member release his debut album?

Back in the early 2010’s, the most popular boyband was One Direction. But now they have broken up. Each member of that group went on to release solo albums of their own. The first of them was Zayn Malik. Followed by Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and just recently, Harry Styles, whose song Sign of the Times became a critical and commercial hit.

Now the last of the 1D group to release his own music is Liam Payne. On May 19, 2017, Payne released his debut single "Strip That Down". The song acts as the lead single for the ex-One Direction member’s solo debut album.

Strip that Down was written by Payne, Ed Sheeran—who contributes uncredited vocals to the song, Steve Mac and Quavo. After One Direction went on a hiatus, Payne, who co-wrote songs on each of the group's five albums, intended to focus only on songwriting. He told Billboard:

“To be honest with you, I wasn't going to do a solo venture. I was just going to go into songwriting and carry on and do that. But then I was like, 'You've been trying to do this since you were 14 years old. You would be ridiculously stupid to turn down the option to have a deal.' Coming out of the band, we had some pretty good opportunities around us. I had to do something”

On 22 June 2016 Payne revealed on Twitter that he had signed a recording contract with Capitol Records. Regarding his forthcoming debut album, Payne stated:

“It's very eclectic. It's more like my playlist album; my favorite playlist of songs that I have made over the past year. So, some slow jams, there's a couple of dance songs on there, with some R&B stuff. So there's a lot -- it's a lot of different stuff”

No announcement has been made regarding the release date of the yet-to-be-named album.
