There’s only one thing you need to know about The New Tracks Hour and that’s that it’s where you hear it first!
With the guidance and astuteness of our guru Mike O, we have what is called intuition and know-how to create the best playlists in the Philippines. And when you know “your favorite station’s favorite station” listens in on Y101, it is indeed “keeping ahead of the competition” so you’re certainly locked in to the right dial!
For this week our music expert unleashes the hotly anticipated pop track Summer Rain with a playful sort-of-Bruno Mars Hawaiian-reggae feel by Matthew Morrison, the TV celebrity’s debut single from his self-entitled unveiling album. California-born Morrison is famed for his role as Mr. Schue at the runaway hit comedy series Glee. Taking advantage of the immense popularity of the globally successful show, the ballad which was recently premiered on American Idol, rides on the bandwagon!
Appearing to have no inhibitions, something women wouldn’t fuss about from a disciplined yet ripped and sexy professor like Matthew, he whispers words like "right up on this rooftop", "make love in the summer rain" and "could be a thousand people watchin' " which outright insinuates public display of affection! A potential summer anthem, the song co-written by Morrison with Claude Kelly and the Norwegian duo Espionage and produced in New York sounds like it’ll be happening!
Also being released by our music leader this week is Young Forever, the second single (after Love Like Woe) by Jordan Mark Witzigreuter aka The Ready Set. Another probable summer hit with its dance and techno elements, the catchy tune seems like it’s ready for some breakthrough especially among teeny-boppers!
With the many positive reviews the youthful track received, the electro-pop cut is more than likely to slide into the charts as the American musician promotes his untitled album.
Something interesting to explore is the Spanish musician Pablo Diaz Rexia whose recording alias is El Guincho. Using Afrobeat, dub, Tropicália and rock and roll tempos into his style to attain his “space-age-exotica” music concept, it is currently taking the Ibiza scene by storm as he comes up with Bombay for radio airplay. A sure smash to be remixed by the top DJs worldwide, it will be a certified dance hit!
