When everyone including DJs, programmers, and even owners of competing radio stations watch out for the hottest tracks released by Y101 Always First, it only tells us that the Rhythm of the City really holds a pinnacle spot in the globe! It certainly has a lot to instruct on Programming 101.
But who is truly behind the scene? Mike O tells us on hush-hush mode: “It’s the Rhythm Crew’s creative team that suggests some of the songs, but I decide on what will be released.” We won’t ask him to give away his covert plan for the year, however, it’s worth a try to bargain for a heads-up on this summer’s sizzling tracks.
This week he slowly unleashes some songs he feels will be blistering this summer here in Cebu. “Usually, summer songs tend to go more upbeat or reggae,” says Mike O. “Although there are always exceptions to the rule.”
He adds: “While in the United States and Europe it’s still spring, here in the Philippines it’s already summer, so in effect the songs released at this time of year are already played in Y101 making us look like we’re way ahead of our time!” Thus Y101 is always first in everything – even in releasing the up-to-the-minute summer hits internationally!
Among other favorites, B.o.B will be there with I’ll Be in the Sky, a new single from the album The Adventure of Bobby Ray. Indeed, a very appropriate tune for the summer. Plus the music video speaks for itself – you’ll know that summer’s around the bend if you watch it!
“By the way, the track inside the album is only available in the UK, Brazil and Russia – not even in the U.S.,” Mike O asserts that Y101 is ahead of the game.
Something to look forward to will definitely be the Irish alternative rock band The Script coming in with another new track – If You Ever Come Back. This is the third single after Nothing and For the First Time from their album Science and Faith. Considered to be one of the bands with the best songwriters in the UK, If You Ever Come Back is a potentially powerful track this summer.
And of course, none other than Slash featuringFergie will also be debuting at The New Tracks Hour with Beautiful Dangerous from the first solo album soon to be released. What can be hotter than Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver’s guitarist Saul Hudson a.k.a. Slash together with Fergie?
