Time travels at lightning pace – it’s the start of another month yet with Rick Dees here to present this week’s much-anticipated show after a record-breaking bombshell on his previous countdown, it’s as if this moment in time never left us!
Last week we had the 23-year-old Barbadian thunderbolt Rihanna smashing the charts with her 10th No.1 single! Chains, whips and knee-high black leather boots on stiletto heels surely landed her very sensual S & M on the history books after massacring Cee-Lo Green’s Forget You!
Not quite ready to bow out her spot, the coup de theatre songstress is more than persevering that key position on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 for more than just one week in spite of Katy Perry’s E.T. chasing her down! Being the fastest solo artist to garner those hits in a flash, the leading light is very deserving of that throne of Dees kingdom!
Will she continue on or will Perry knock her down? Now here’s the scenario:
It’s tough to predict which of the two Divas will take on the paramount spot this week. On one end, we have the pacesetter Rihanna (who only trails the Beatles and the Supremes in Billboard’s Top 100 charts logging her as the ace superstar in 52 years). On the other hand, we have Pop Princess Katy Perry clutching onto that desired slot as well. Kicking it to high gear and attempting to overtake Rihanna for the checkered flag, it wouldn’t be astonishing to find her there in next to no time!
Incidentally, Y101 Always First is already rotating the exclusive version of Rihanna and Britney Spears’ S & M in our playlist. Likewise, Y101 has the exclusive collaboration of Katy Perry and Tinie Tempah as well as Katy Perry and Kanye West’s adaptation of E.T. How’s that for a ground-breaking up-to-the minute trendsetter?
Throwing another monkey wrench into the milieu, Ke$ha’s tailing the bumpers with her latest electropop and dance pop-single, Blow! How about that for a close cat fight among Divas?
In the meantime, Black Eyed Peas continue to slowly creep up the charts with Just Can’t Get Enough while Pitbull featuring T-Pain’s Hey Baby slides down slowly but surely and Avril Lavigne stays steady with What the Hell.
Inspirational celebrity Lady Gaga relinquishes her ranking in the top windows for Born This Way to give room for her soon-to-skyrocket controversial “nitro” single Judas to enter the countdown.
Head’s up on Pitbull feat. Ne-Yo’s Give Me Everything, a single from his new album Planet Pit and his first collabo with the pop and RnB American singer-songwriter! Our gut feel from the Y101crew of creatives – this song will enter the countdown almost immediately!
An exciting countdown awaits us this Sunday afternoon with a good deal going on in the inventory of great tunes getting ready to shine in the summer heat as new tracks break into the Rick Dees Top 40 over here at Y101 Always First!
Be there for the breakthrough!
The countdown of the week’s chart toppers on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 is at 2 PM-6 PM on Sundays with replays on Tuesdays 8 PM-12 midnight only here at Y101 Always First.
