Not a surprise to see the Barbadian bombshell Rihanna with her 10th Number 1 single S & M deadbolt the preferred spot in the Rick Dees chart last week!
But will Santa Barbara, California-born Katy Perry and her buddy Kanye West’s simmering ravisher E.T. outdo the two-time champ?
On our previous write-up, we talked about how thorny it would be to predict which of the two divas would make it to Number 1 on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdown. This week we face the same scenario – only Perry’s closing in after dominating the Hot 100 singles chart five out of six times, topping Billboard’s Radio Songs for 2 weeks in a row and governing the Digital Songs list for six consecutive weeks! How’s that for shifting gears to overdrive?
And with Ke$ha’s mind-blowing Blow and Black Eyed Peas’ Just Can’t Get Enough still trailing the circus tents, an attention-grabbing show awaits us today when Rick reveals the whirligigs of the week.
A sure-to-rise rebounding pin-up Britney Spears is ready to astound the planet with another hit Till the World Ends, as she bounces back into the music arena with her second single from her seventh album Femme Fatale! At No. 8 last week and still soaring, this track is something to definitely fear!
Wondering how Avril Lavigne will be placing this week after remaining pretty steady for the past two weeks? Her overly-pop and excessively-schoolgirl track What the Hell seems to be very complacent and comfy at a reasonably good but not the best slot! And that’s where it should stay – or that’s what Y101 feels anyway!
Meanwhile, J Lo Featuring Pitbull appears to be getting a grip on the Dees countdown as her track On the Floor gets closer to the preferred spot. What judging American Idol can do!
Wrapping up, while we have all these exciting icons zooming up to reach for the stars, Cee Lo Green’s Forget You is slowly but surely being forgotten, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is sliding down the chart in style!
A sneak peak: what’s a sure shot is Hot Chelle Rae with Tonight Tonight, a Nashville pop-rock band expected to be a front runner in crossing the Weekly Top 40 threshold soon, despite having released their album since October of 2009. And watch out for Wiz Khalifa’s Roll Up (currently a hot request in Y101’s playlist)!
Another stirring show lies ahead of us from 2 PM – 6 PM this afternoon when Rick Dees releases his top 40 list for the week. Just lock in to Y101 Always First and you’re there!
