Holy Week which is also known as Semana Santa (in Spanish) or in Filipino Mahál na Araw (literally: Dear/Precious Day/s) is a much-celebrated religious festival in the Philippines and Y101 observes the event with special shows for its listeners all week long – in this case, WT 20 brings you The Top 20 Crash Songs!
What are crash tracks? There are many definitions to the word crash, for example “a sudden severe downturn” (in an economy or a market); among other descriptions, it may also be used as a slang term for “to go to sleep” or “mental depression after drug-taking”!
Yes, there are numerous meanings for the expression crash and over here at Y101 Always First we kinda meshed up all the connotations and came up with a new idiom – crash tracks are what we consider to be softer easygoing tracks that segue from a series of heavy or banging songs. For instance, in an all-rock Led Zeppelin special on let’s say Bootleg Gold where you would have a run of head-bangers like Black Dog, Moby Dick, etc., a song like Stairway to Heaven would be considered the crash track to the set.
In a Contemporary Hits Radio (CHR) programming where we have a mix of pop, R&B, rock, house and other hits from different genres, however, what would be a crash track would be Bruno Mars’ Just the Way You Are as an exemplar, after a string of tracks from upbeat tracks from maybe Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Pink and more.
What to look forward to today on WT 20? Chances are that our top tracks will be coming from artists whose penchant of the use of their falsetto voices predominate or perhaps, some of those melting chill house tracks that thaw out club-goers! These, of course, are the best crashes of April 2010 – April 2011…
Don’t fail to catch WT 20 when it presents another first, bringing you The Top 20 Crash Tracks this year! Just be there!
