Pre-21 sweetheart, Miley Cyrus, hits our radios with her shot of sounding like his country musician dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.
And here at Y101, we're joining the Miley on her almost Gospel-like sounding ballad, The Climb. Let's just hope the rain won't slam us in our choral singing.
“There's nothing wrong here, but there's nothing particularly spectacular either,” slams Bill Lamb of About.com. “Hollywood Records is looking for a cross-format smash in both pop and country, and perhaps they will have it. However, Miley Cyrus' teen pop anthems "7 Things" and "See You Again" are ultimately more memorable than "The Climb." This is all a bit too American Idol.”
Although we don't want to dishearten Hannah Montana's generally GP-rated fanbase, the Rhythm Crew doesn't quite feel a need for a power ballad-patterned tune like The Climb in this time of the year – or at least, we have our own set of more interesting ballads to sing along to.
Nevertheless, no matter how mediocre the song sounds, a gem we could pick out from the rubble is the fact that Miley shows off to Disneyworld that there's more to her wardrobe than undies model, punk heartbreak tunes and TV sitcoms.
Taking on country music, although she doesn't necessarily sound like she's at home, Miley is still able to make up for the cons with a universal life lesson: [it] Ain’t about how fast I get there / [it] Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side / It’s the climb.
Savoring the challenge over the stakes - pretty wise words from somebody who's still getting "there."
