T.I. says: "Liv Yah Lyf" |

{mosimage} 80 to 1.
Guess what’s that?
A ball game score? Nope.
A sort of math algorithm? Not either.
Number of days before it’s Christmas? NO (silly, it’s 50 more days to go!).
What is it then?
Actually, we in the Y101 Web Team were surprised to discover that that’s the jump of T.I.’s – “Live Your Life” single in the US Billboard’s Hot 100 (yeah – “Live Your Life” started in #80 and jumped all the way to #1). Find out more of this literally jumping single from the talked-about rapper T.I.
The song begins with a familiar tune that’s coined as “Numa Numa” in the US (a title associated with Gary Brolsma and his wackily dubbed web video), although in truth, it is actually entitled “Dragostea Din Tei” by the Moldovan all-boy pop band “O-Zone.”
Mind you, this European tune swept all across the different European hit charts in 2004 – and now, it’s doing a similar kind of magic touch to T.I.’s “Live Your Life” thanks to Rihanna’s vocal intervention.
But more than just the introductory catchy tune, the Y101 Web Team salutes this T.I. rendition for its deep and resonant lyrics (So live your life (ay), ay ay ay / Instead of chasing that paper) – and T.I. has a point: just live your lives, man!
Plus putting in Rihanna’s version of the “Numa Numa” song adds audio quality to T.I.’s powerful rapping thus earning another four thumbs up from the Y101 FM crew (that is if you count the thumbs of your feet).
And reviews in about.com adds (on the song):
"Live Your Life" kicks off with the sound of Rihanna… approximating… her take on the Moldovan pop song "Dragostea din tei," and it is instantly one of the most distinctive sounds of the year in pop music. Most pop fans are likely to either love it or hate it. Either way, it draws strong attention to this upbeat answer to critics and fans on the trials and tribulations of rapper T.I.
So we’ve heard of T.I.’s conviction to a year-long sentence for illegal possession of firearms – and we’re very sorry for him (can we give the guy a break?).
So while listening to the song, we can only hope that T.I.’s battles could come to a positive conclusion and he’d emerge a better man. But regardless of all these personal turmoils in the Atlanta rapper’s life, T.I.’s recent album (“Paper Trail”) is a solid combination of rhyme, swagger, substance and repentance.
No wonder his songs “Whatever You Like” (which also jumped from #71 to #1 in the US Billboards Chart) and “Live Your Life” are instant hit chart successes.
Who taught these singles to jump so far?
Meanwhile, tune in to Y101 Always First everyday this week and catch T.I. rap some sense in yah doug!
