{mosimage} Here in Y101, we’re ALWAYS FIRST. And we’re definitely the first to pick up the breaking news that concerns national security (looks like it’s more of a global dilemma). Sounds scary, but trust us, we’re not here to shoo you off folks. So moving on to the news:
“Autobeats to battle Wackacons in a conflict where the Earth’s (musical) fate hangs in the balance.”
What?! What are Autobeats and Wackacons? Read on and find out more of this week's "nerdy" featured artist.
Heard of the sci-fi cartoon, The Transformers? Those robot morphing vehicles – divided among Autobots and Decepticons – that eternally battle to get control of their home world Cybertron? Yeah, they’re about to smash through the airwaves – in a more terrestrial form: Optimus Rhyme (yeah, it’s a P short of the original 10-wheeler leader of the Autobots).
A Y101 exclusive – Optimus Rhyme is the band to catch this week as they pump up the air with their jumpy and fun “Obey the Moderator.”
“We (Y101 FM) are the first to play their songs,” Jiggy Jr. quips with a BITE ON HIS LIPS. He sure is excited about this Y101 exclusive. And when asked about the band…
“…nerd core, the cool side of nerds,” Jiggy Jr. describes this band from Seattle.
One of the more famous singles from this nerdcore hip-hop group coming from their 2007 album ("School the Indie Rockers") is “Obey the Moderator” – a wittingly arranged rhapsody that shares the experience of Wheelie Cyberman, OR’s Conveyor Belt Poet (in layman’s term – vocalist), as a web supervisor/Nsider Forum moderator at Nintendo.
Although rap stars and hip-hop groups are known to cuss and don an arrogant “bad boy” image, Optimus Rhyme doesn’t seem like a member of the pack.
To this – the Y101 Web Team gives Optimus Rhyme a thumbs up (are we seeing visions of another Linkin’ Park wannabe?).
“Optimus Rhyme will make you forget the nightmarish orgies of excess and racial self-parody you've seen on the music video channels. They'll make you laugh, they'll make you feel smart, they'll entertain you -- in short, they'll charm your f*cking pants off.” – Mike Meginnis, Splendid Magazine review. We in the Y101 Web Team agree. So no matter how nerdy some would look at this Transformer- fanatic band, one thing’s for sure – Optimus Rhyme earns a two thumbs up from the Y101 Web Team for its clean-cut lyrics and they’re very entertaining brand of “nerdy” funk.
So catch more of the Autobeats - Wheelie (vocals), Stumblebee (bass), Powerthighs (lead guitar) and Grimrock (drums) as they battle against Wackacon’s repetitive loop manufacturers, lackluster DJs, angst-filled metal right here in Y101 FM Always First every earth day.
Hopefully, we don’t become Transformer addicts in the long run (scary!!).
