Chainsmoker’s New York City Stripped Naked

Tracks this week on Y101’s Stripped Down!

This week’s show featured some awesome acoustic tracks notably the one by Victoria Zaro who did the vocals for the Chainsmokers’ progressive house hit New York City.

Zaro’s acoustic version enhanced the emotional depth to an already sentimetal love song for the Big Apple. Her vocals stripped away from the beats and synths delivered an affecting vibe that resonated through the radio last night.

But on a more upbeat track, California’s Zendaya greeted us with an electronic RnB pop song with Replay. The platinum-certified track was released in 2013 when Zendaya was still 16-years old. She co-wrote the song with other songwriters and described the sound as neither pop nor RnB. “I don't even know where you would consider it because it kind of mixes that pop sound beat with a very R&B kind of melody”. Personally I thought the song had this Disney vibe. A song that sounds sexy but not that overly provocative. Something you would here from Jojo or Demi Lovato.

Another track heard last night was from Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Hook. Sound of Your Heart was released February last year but got re-released internationally earlier this year. It is a lush pop rock song that sounds very similar to La La La by Naughty Boy and Sam Smith. Canada has been spitting out a chock full of Shawns recently. RnB superstar Shawn Desman, teen sensation Shawn Mendes, and right now Shawn Hook might come to reign the top 40’s with his pop single.

There are many cool urbanized sounds teeming around Stripped Down, so tune in next week for another set of acoustic jams.
