Sade and Morrissey Turned Down Offer to new Gorillaz album

Gorillaz’ new album will feature guest appearances from D.R.A.M., Carly Simon, De La Soul, and more.

Gorillaz’ much anticipated album, Humanz, will be released on April 28. It will feature guest appearances from hip-hop artists Vince Staples, De La Soul, electronic artists Zebra Katz and Jamie Principle, soul singers Benjamin Clementine and Kali Uchis, and 70s songstress Carly Simon.

In a recent interview with Q Magazine, Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn revealed that more artists did not accept offers to have a guest spot on the album. One of those big artists that passed on the opportunity was Morrissey of The Smiths.

Morrissey turned down a guest spot on Humanz after a “month long email exchange” and that singers Sade and Dionne Warwick also rejected the offer of a collaboration. Warwick reportedly thought the group’s lyrics conflicted with her religious beliefs. “I don’t take rejection personally” Albarn said in the interview.
