samsung vs. iphone geek main

The bastions of the smartphone industry are going head-to-head in this one!

Earlier this week we saw the launch of the latest iPhone line and iPhone 7 Plus is established as the best Apple phone available out there. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has received backlash after a massive recall due to exploding batteries. But Samsung is set to replace purchased Note 7 stocks and the phone is still the undisputed champion from Samsung's smartphone line. Today let's go into a quick comparison after a reported initial hands-on reviews by tech professionals around the globe:

Design
The iPhone 7 line is now sleeker than before but it's more of a sleeker version of the iPhone 6 design. The antenna band is now gone but hey, our prayers have been answered with very rich black and glossy jet black color options. Meanwhile the Galaxy Note 7's aesthetic is borrowed from the S7 Edge, which is considered a favorite in terms of design of today- curved display, and glass at the back.

Display
This is where it's going to start to be technical. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a stunning 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. The Quad HD resolution remains the same as before, for a 518ppi pixel density. It's considered the best in the business today. Meanwhile, Apple opts for the same 5.5-inch display with a 401ppi pixel density for the iPhone 7 Plus. It’s also used the same IPS LCD panel technology for years now and slightly trails behind the Note 7. It's not all bad, though- the 3D Touch Technology is very promising and looks into becoming the future of technology in general. Pretty exciting, if you ask me!

Performance
According to reports, Apple has continued with its rate of CPU performance improvement. The A9 was 50 to 70% faster than the A8, and now the A10 marks a 30% improvement over the A9. The Note 7 on the other hand uses same chip as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. That means either the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 CPU, depending on where we live.

Camera
Apple had the best camera until Samsung introduced the Galaxy S7. And the Note 7 has the same camera- the Note 7 boasts of 12-megapixels with phase detection, Dual Pixels, OIS, an f/1.7 lens, and a 1/2.6-inch sensor – pretty sweet! Apple on the other hand adds a second camera to the rear of the 7 Plus. This dual-lens setup combines a telephoto camera with a wide-angle camera and note that both lenses are at 12 megapixels that are bent to create an effective optical zoom option. They can also combine to allow you to alter the focus after the picture has been taken, much like a Lytro light field camera. And take note of the improved aperture to f/1.8, which makes a big difference for low-light shots.

Controversy
What's popularity without some controversy? As mentioned earlier, the iPhone 7 still doesn't feel new and offers newer colors. If you look closely, upgrading from a 6s Plus to a 7 plus would be an impractical choice. Wait for the 7s Plus instead. Meanwhile, like we said before, Samsung has suffered due to the Note 7's recall earlier this week. Replacements are to be shipped out soon but how can you be so sure you're getting a new unit or not?

We won't go into the storage capabilities since this boils down to your lifestyle and needs. Do you shoot 4k video on the daily or just enjoy streaming? One of the few questions to consider if you're getting a new phone. So that's that- the good, the bad and the ugly. It all boils down to choice. Some have already shifted from Android to iOS and vice versa. It's all about comfort and your lifestyle. So which of the two is on your wish list? Share with us at the comments!
