gabii sa kabilin

Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel will let Gabii sa Kabilin 2019 participants experience Cebu traditional way of life upon Spaniards’ arrival in Cebu.

As one of the participating sites and museums, Palm Grass, which is at Route 11 of this year’s Gabii sa Kabilin, will highlight the precolonial warship, karakoa, in its Cebu heritage adventure trail.

The karakoa was a large outrigger war and trading ship used by Visayan natives during seasonal sea raids.

Palm Grass heritage trail includes activities such as learning the following: maglubok (pounding palay), magtahop ug alig-ig (blowing to separate rice husks), puso weaving, tinikling (native dance), kulintang (native musical instrument), sungka (native game).

Palm Grass album Abtik pas Kilat (songs of love, war, and history) will be performed by Ian Biñan of Cebu bisrock band Phylum and  singer Naomi Rosales, a Cebu Katipunero descendant.

GSK participants will also learn arnis,   appreciate the artworks in Josua Cabrera’s exhibit, “Latagaw”; learn Cebu history in the wall art, “Ang dalan padulong sa kagawasan” and other artworks in the hotel.

They will also get to savor the Cebuano merienda like budbod, puto maya, pinaypay, turon, sikwate, kape mais.

Heritage videos produced by Palm Grass Hotel and Hong Kong-based video creator Prospero Laput will also be screened.

This year's theme “Setting Sail” gives tribute to the historic event when five ships set sail from Spain, began a journey that eventually circumnavigated the earth.

Palm Grass Hotel, the only heritage hotel in Cebu, and a member of the Central Visayas Association of Museums (CVAM), offers a unique approach to hospitality by providing guests with a place to stay and knowledge on Cebu history, culture, and identity.

Gabii sa Kabilin or “Night of Heritage” is an annual event where museums and heritage sites in Cebu are opened to the public for one night from 6:00pm to 12:00 midnight.

Gabii sa Kabilin will take place in 18 museums and participating heritage sites located in the four cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapulapu.
