The Mitsubishi Montero Sport’s alleged is once again trending in social media as well as mainstream news.

I am still very much doubtful of the authenticity of this issue. In other words I am not sure if this is true. I would like to share with you my thoughts on this matter.

Mitsubishi Motors is a multinational company and complies with international standards in manufacturing vehicles like the Montero Sport. If this problem really did exist then they should be the first to know and react immediately.

For SUA to occur, the engine and brakes would have to fail simultaneously. It is too much of a coincidence that both the engine and brakes failed in all SUA incidents reported especially since there is no direct connection between the engine and brakes in any vehicle.

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is manufactured in Thailand and is sold in more than 80 countries aside from the Philippines. Why is there no recorded incident of the Montero’s sudden acceleration problem in these countries? It would be amazing to think that in all of the countries this vehicle is sold it only happened here.

I have a friend who I consider to be one of the countries top mechanics. He said the Montero Sport belongs to a new breed of vehicles that is driven by wire; meaning, most of its function is controlled by a computer chip and sensors. According to him, this is the first place that we should look into – again, assuming that the problem is real. But if you think about it, the Montero Sport is not the only vehicle with this technology, several vehicles in the market employs exactly the same technology. So how come the others have no reported acceleration problem?

Montero Sport’s sudden acceleration accidents reported where either driven by elderly people, women and drivers with a lesser experience in driving an automatic. These kinds of drivers can commit what is called a pedal misapplication. They could be stepping on the gas pedal when they really meant to hit the brakes. This usually causes panic especially when you feel the engine revving when you meant to put the vehicle to a stop. More often than not, the panic causes one to step harder on the pedal.

These are just a few rational thoughts I share with you. I’ve been driving at a very early age and I had all sorts of experience in driving. Today I drive the Mitsubishi Montero on a daily basis and, personally, I’ve have not experienced anything close to what these people are claiming. The best thing to do is to always stay cautious when on the wheel. Let’s all be safe in driving… all the time.
