Today, The President of the Republic of the Philippines will deliver his last State of the Nation Address before his term will end next year. There are a lot of speculations on what he might say.

His critics are also ready to criticize him before he can even begin. I have been watching SONAs of those who came before him and this has always been the case; so I don’t see anything new here.

President Benigno Aquino III addresses parliament for the last time on Monday and he is expected to talk about big issues concerning the progress of our economy, security, and the peace process. I am sure he will report the advances his government has made and the things that he needs to work on.

PNoy is losing influence by the day caused by issues like the economic slowdown, the SAF 44 issue and the passing of the BBL. “Matuwid na Daan” will be his legacy. Although we haven’t seen it unfold dramatically, he was able to prove that it can be done. We don’t need to hear where he failed because his critics will do it for him. I also don’t need to hear his reason for these failures, because I am sure he will just blame it on someone else. More importantly, I think we need to hear about the good things he has not finished in his reform and to endorse to us the person who can accomplish this for him in the next administration.

We are used to having reforms started and unfinished because the next administration refuses to continue this, that is why we are never able to move forward. This country needs continuity and I think that is one of the things we should look for in choosing the next President. We need a strong administration that is capable of accepting that their predecessors have started something good and is humble enough to continue these projects.
