Y101fm hosts a lot of contests for the listeners. Back in the 80's/90's, Y101 used to give cash prizes to the listeners on a daily basis. Every morning, the DJ plays a certain song for the "Daily Cash Pay Off" and in the afternoon or some time within the day, the song will play again and the listeners would have to call the station right away and label it as the "Daily Cash Pay Off" song. Winners would win cash prizes daily. This promo ran for a month or two every year. "A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge."

Y101 has a lot of followers out there, but this kind of promo helped identify the die-hard fans who listened to the station from dusk til dawn. It also gave Y101 a chance to reward those who deserved it.
