Kids nowadays would ask their parents for the latest tablet or phone there is available in the market; however, it wasn’t the case of the 90’s kids.

90’s kids had the best experiences because they had the best toys. Kids of today do not want toys anymore but would rather have access to computer games and gadgets ( iPhone, iPad, etc). Too bad the kids nowadays do not focus much on the toy section in the malls because some of the cool 90’s toys still exist now. I see more children in the video game store. I may be a gamer, but kids need to experience being kids too. I had the best of both worlds as a kid.

Without further ado, here are the 90’s toys that ruled our childhood!

Tamagotchi

This is where kids who never had pets learned how to care for something, and experience the death of the virtual pet which was rather, painful. Tamagotchi is something serious. You will end up waking in the middle of the night because your Tamagotchi was hungry, or did the poo-poo. Tamagotchis are still available now and is in full color (Hurray!).

Handheld Gaming Consoles

Before the PSP and others, kids dreamed of having a Gameboy, Game Gear or a Neo Geo pocket. The older cool kids had it while the younger ones wait for the opportunity to borrow it or patiently watch the cool kids play. Having to battle another person means connecting cables. It was just the coolest thing in the world at its time.

Vtech Learning Laptops

These learning laptops had nothing but fun and education in one. Having personal computers weren’t common back then so having a vetch was a good way of learning how to type, use a mouse and of course, learn a lot of things: History, Science, Math, Spelling and many more. As a kid, I learned so many things I did not learn from school at a young age and it was great telling adults about Pocahontas’ history.

Polly Pocket

These little things meant so much to its owners. Polly Pockets were dolls less than an inch (or a half) and had houses which fit in kid’s pockets. Kids have to be careful though, it’s so small and can be accidentally swallowed. Probably why Polly pockets are a lot bigger in size now – it’s more like a Polly Bag.

Sky Dancers

It really flies! Great as a toy and as the ultimate weapon to aim at a sibling, the sky dancers entertained all the little girls at their time. Even the boys wanted one! Kids didn’t mind using that expensive toy for fun and having it land on cement leaving the sky dancer looking rather battered.

Furby

Every kid wanted a Furby for Christmas when it was released. It showed to have a mind of its own and it did. At first, the Furby would be in its juvenile stage, unable to speak English, and will grow over time as long as you give it love and care, it will develop and soon speak English. Some began thinking their furby was possessed and would freak out but hey, it’s actually just Furby learning and reflecting on your treatment. You have to raise it right for it to behave right. This robotic toy was the thing for kids despite the price. There are new Furbies now called “Furby Booms” and can be played alone, or with an application on your phone/ tablet.

Troll Dolls

They were ugly but they were loved. 90’s kids collected them and were always in someone’s room. It creeped out our parents for some time but we can’t deny that it made us really good hairstylists.

What was your favorite toy?
