What’s with blue anyway? According to an article from Business Insider, the color blue may never been known until the modern times.

It was realized by Gladstone, a scholar who later became Britain’s Prime minister, that there wasn’t a word for the color “blue”-in ancient languages and literature. Homer’s “odyssey” did not describe the sea as blue which was weird for me because as a literature student, I did not mind how the water was described… until I read this article.

Come to think of it, most of us have not really mind the color blue. I took it for granted to tell you the truth and now, the fact that it is the color of the sky… and it’s the earth’s dominant color, how can it NOT be discovered before the modern times?

Admin said that the sky reflects the color of the water- so what was the color of the waters during the ancient time if no one noticed the color blue? It bothers me. Again, is it because we were taught to identify that this is blue; that is blue, we get to point out what the blue color is? There was an experiment in the article where a tribe was asked to point out which was the blue among the green boxes and they found it difficult to identify it however, it is very easy for us. Give them different shades of green and they can easily point out which is which while we couldn’t.

Is blue an illusion? What do you think?
