Most of us are working harder than dogs- to some, they work 12 hours a day and not remember that they are human and forgetting to enjoy life.

During our weekend getaway, I was confused of what my Japanese friend was doing- he was bathing under the sun for a long time; sipping his beer, smiling and nodding his head from time to time. I asked him if he was okay because I thought he was already having some sort of heat stroke but what he told me was eye opening.

“ The sun was always there all along but I do not get to see it. Now here it is (points to the sun) all over me… and I am happy”

I’m not talking about just the sun- what my friend said can be applied to everything. Sometimes, we are too busy that we do not notice what’s around us and that kind of routine makes us unhappy and monotonous. Life has become so busy that we are boiled down to just ourselves and our work.

Let’s try to appreciate everything and everyone around us- that smiling security guard, the old couple holding hands in the mall, the trees which never seem to tire from shading a couple of people, the cat gracefully walking on the roofs, your wife cooking a sumptuous meal, your kids trying to solve that math homework…those are just some. Once you notice them, you’ll begin to see that a lot of good things were already around you all along and you just have failed to see them.
