I was always fascinated with the moon ever since I was a kid. When I saw a post on Facebook about a blood moon happening on the 4th of April 2015, I was very excited.

Blood Moons are actually total lunar eclipses, where the earth is in the middle of the sun and moon, causing the earth to cast its shadow on the moon. The eclipse started at about 6pm and can be seen from my window; although, it wasn’t a very nice experience since I had to watch it from the bathroom (I guess this is what happens when you live in an apartment of someone else’s choice). One thing was bothering me a bit… I did not see a hint of red. It did not look like a blood moon but it was for sure an eclipse. I didn’t get to gaze for so long because of the discomfort. Later, the eclipse was out of sight due to the clouds. There’s always something in Cebu—every time there’s something to look forward to, the skies, especially celestial events, it’s always cloudy. We missed the visible Mars (I forgot when that was) and some meteor showers.

We were lucky to have witnessed a blood moon, which was undisturbed by clouds, was last December 10, 2011. It was my first time to witness it, and I tell you it was one of the best nights of my life. The blood moon was something I only see in movies and cartoons before, but now, I know what it is like in real life, and it is really beautiful.

It’s sad that I haven’t seen the blood moon last April 4. Oh well, I just better watch out for the next, and make sure I go somewhere nice to get a good view.
