Timing.

You have to be able to capture the moment to make the photo significant. How the people expressed their emotions makes the people in the picture special.

Have a camera with you at all times.

You cannot deal with timing if you do not have a camera—it has to be with you at all times because great moments happen randomly and most of the time, when you least expect it. So be prepared and expect to take great photos!

Observe Proper Lighting.

Do not take Lighting for granted—it does a lot to pictures—the reason why studios have those lights because they control the mood and feel of the picture. Not only that, the light will also affect the quality of the photo—a bad lighting will make a high quality photo look low.
