Since the afternoon was not that busy, I had a little chit chat with Mike Solo and a cup of coffee.

Music, all in all, is good but there is always a difference of taste or preference. For example, one will like retro while the other prefers what’s in today. For Mike Solon, he talked about a bit of the 80’s and 90’s then compared it to what we have now.

Mike Solo thinks that the music during the 80s and 90s has a story. The music gives a message and it is more of an expression- such as the expression of love. Nowadays, music is mostly focused on complaining and there is always this hint of hate. Mike said that there is so much ranting in music nowadays and it is probably the reflection of our generation.

He tells us not to lose hope though, there are artists who are a lot different from what we call “common”. Artists such as Jessie J, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande and Sam Smith are showing differences. They are going back to the kind of music writing there was during the 80s and 90s and he hopes that they continue the trend.

Hopefully, sensible artists will last and inspire more upcoming musicians to follow them. I agree that the music before was so much different in terms of the meaning and feel. Music before was more of an expressive art compared to what we have lately.
