Nothing intimidates the Afternoon Drive’s host when celebrities waylay his board work.
Ambush interviews are John M’s forte on the Afternoon Drive – he’s simply formidable but fearful when he goes for it! And yesterday, our big kahuna was bushwhacked when the Filipino-Australian actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith strutted into the Y101 booth with her entourage to talk about her advocacy organization World Vision.
Being the Youth Ambassador for the Philippines, she accepts pledges to help the less fortunate children. “She’s pleasant and seems quite sincere” says the authoritative DJ as he further states that Curtis has an amiable aura and seems more humanitarian than her sister, Anne. “What they both have in common though, is that they don’t sing”… Where did that come from John M?
Afternoons usually get these kind of bolts from the blue yet John takes pleasure in doing spontaneous dialogues. “I’m a pro” he acknowledges “and with it comes the responsibility of doing my job skillfully” and skillfully is an understatement when it comes to this luminary’s question and answer sessions.
An exceptional DJ that he is and witty as a fox, he’s very much in demand to conduct the roundtables. All the rage artists like Sharon Cuneta, Martin Nievera, Sarah Geronimo and a number of other celebrities and politicians are among the many people he’s talked to. With his passion for music and the love of his craft, it’s no wonder he’s the man to tête-à-tête with!
Needless to say that he meshes his contemporary hits without a glitch to complement his conversations flawlessly. He may throw in One Direction’s Perfect or Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams as he’s quizzing his interviewee – a knack he has behind the board!
