John M’s top 10 classic rock tracks as seen by Martha T...

It’s that time of the month to cover the Afternoon Drive once again and today we’ll be giving you a closer look at the rocking side of our unparalleled DJ John M. Proficient as he is in delivering contemporary hits, entertaining his listeners with the most cutting-edge tracks like this week’s WT20 alp Ex’s and Oh’s or Rick DeesWildest Dreams, he always manages to get his favorite classic rock wallops in every so often.

I remember unveiling some of the tracks he plays during his board work but now, let’s put them into perspective – his top 10 in the right order! Let me guess…

Number 10:
Ozzy Ozbourne Crazy Train
I’m assuming this is one of John’s faves because here’s a dude that’s made insanity mainstream with his signature hit, featuring a heavy rock riff which drives Mr. DJ bizarre!

Number 9:
Lynyrd SkynyrdSweet Home Alabama
Why I think this track is another one of John’s choice cuts is not only because I always hear him start up his slot with this tripwire but also because it is no doubt a Southern pride satire to the Confederate flag and knowing this witty DJ, he indulges on this controversy!

Number 8:
Grand Funk RailroadI’m Your Captain (Closer To Home)
I just know John loves this song – related to the Vietnam War, its catchy verses on getting closer to home make it the definitive Grand Funk Railroad song!

Number 7:
Boston More Than A Feeling
Again featuring one of rock's all-time great riffs, this powerful song is undoubtedly another one of John’s picks, being a guitar man himself!

Number 6:
Pink FloydWish You Were Here
Not only a John M favorite – who wouldn’t be a fan of Pink Floyd’s powerhouse from their ninth album The Dark Side of the Moon that soupçons on the mental illness of one of its members?

Number 5:
Jimi HendrixVoodoo Child (Slight Return)
This psychedelic blues song with feedback-laden guitar leads has to be a John M penchant – it’s one of Jimi’s signature songs and one of John’s weaknesses!

Number 4:
Led ZeppelinKashmir
Stairway To Heaven may be what John plays best on the guitar, but if you haven’t heard Kashmir, you haven't heard Led Zeppelin – it will leave you in a trance just like it leaves John M woolgathering!

Number 3:
Joe SatrianiSurfing With The Alien
This is one of those songs that changes John’s view of what guitar playing is – it inspires him to be the DJ that he is!

Number 2:
AC/DCHighway To Hell
By far, John’s paramount Australian band – and an insane song for an insanely passionate rocker!

Number 1:
Van HalenPanama
Undoubtedly the ultimate John M gig as Eddie Van Halen riffs his preferred track – being a lover of the glam rock icon Van Halen, this is it!

Did I read you well John?

An exceptional DJ and a phenomenal rock connoisseur, listen to John M on the Afternoon Drive every afternoon from 2 to 6 on Mondays through Thursdays, and on Friday’s Gold Rush - keep it locked!
