Luscious acoustic tracks on this week’s Y101’s Stripped Down.
Southside has been suffering from months of excruciating heat due to the El Niño phenomenon but yesterday our city dwellers were treated with a very cool wet blessing in the sky. Rain has finally poured down upon the city of Cebu setting a very perfect mood for yesterday’s Stripped Down.
Last night Daya’s pop anthem Sit Still Look Pretty was treated to a make-over and was stripped naked baring only acoustic guitar strings to be left for us to behold and appreciate. Daya’s pop song is really about female empowerment and empowering people to just go after their dreams and ambitions without letting others in their way, without having to be an accessory for someone else, or to depend on someone else for happiness. Her empowering message is to discourage everyone from sitting still and looking pretty. The acoustic version really brought out Daya’s vocals without the pop synths and 808 drum beat distractions.
Three Swedish brothers came out of the fifth season of The X Factor Australia. These brothers John, Tom, and Robin formed a boy band trio called JTR and released a delectable pop tune called Centre of Everywhere. But a much more delectable acoustic version of their song came out. The boys even played the track on the streets as passersby take a video of them.

Colors by American recording artist Halsey is a pop tune obviously inspired by 1989-Taylor Swift. However the tune is more than a Red-knock off because of its much more deep and inspired lyrics. On YouTube you can find a video of Halsey singing an alternative acoustic version to Colors using only a ukulele for accompaniment. But that turned out to be just a really similar sounding Halsey cover. A video that is actually her can be found as well. Halsey can be seen on the video wearing a baseball cap backwards. She plays the acoustic guitar and sings the words to her hit Colors, a song about heartbreak and rejection and originally disguised as an infectious pop song.
