Austin Mahone and more

Check out the highlights of yesterday’s mellow Stripped Down playlist.

Yesterday, Stripped Down provided us with some luscious acoustic tracks whose titles are difficult for me to make a pun of. Highlights of Sunday’s program included John Mayer’s country tune Who You Love which features a duet with her then girlfriend Katy Perry.

Mayer and Perry wrote and recorded together the song Who You Love, a country ballad about accepting falling in love with someone, on the theory that “you love who you love”. The song is about the joy of falling in love with someone when you least expect it. A perfect fit for Mayer and Perry who were madly in love back in 2013 when the song was released.

Another track that got played yesterday was Shadow by the young singer Austin Mahone. His track, setting a perfect mood for Sunday’s drizzle, came strumming through the speakers. At only 20 years old, Mahone is one of the few young talented musicians in the industry who writes his own songs. Shadow is one of the slowed-down ballads Mahone wrote that never fails to get the Mahonies out in full force.

In 2014, the American electronic trio Cash Cash released a progressive house track called Surrender which featured an uncredited guest vocal from American artist Julia Michaels. Providing the Stripped Down twist yesterday, Michaels was heard with her piano-driven acoustic version of the dance track. While the song title Surrender may refer to the act of giving up, however its message might show a different side of things. “Sometimes you don’t even know what you’re fighting for. Sometimes surrendering can set you free!"
